{"id":136,"date":"2022-03-30T08:33:13","date_gmt":"2022-03-30T08:33:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lfpa.org.lb\/?page_id=136"},"modified":"2023-04-11T08:33:43","modified_gmt":"2023-04-11T08:33:43","slug":"reproductive-sexual-health-family-planning","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/lfpa.org.lb\/index.php\/reproductive-sexual-health-family-planning\/","title":{"rendered":"Reproductive Sexual Health &#038; Family Planning"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">LFPA Health Center in Deir Qanoon al Naher \u2013Tyre Region \/ South Lebanon<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Deir Qanoun al-Naher Center was established in the early nineties, after the end of the civil war in Lebanon, as a referral center for the LFPA field workers in the region and to provide health services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The Center serves as a health clinic and as the headquarters for all LFPA development activities in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The center provides reproductive health services including counseling, family planning services and various medical specialties. The services are provided by professionals from the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The Medical services include the following specialties:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Gynecology services<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Prenatal &amp; postnatal care<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Family planning services<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Counseling<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Pediatrics and vaccination<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Internal medicine<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Ear, nose and throat medicine<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Dermatology<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Around 3000 individuals benefit from the center high quality services. The services are offered at symbolic prices and the RSH services are sometimes offered free of charge if sponsored by donors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The center is used by the Lebanese University, school of midwifery, as a training center for their students in third and fourth year, as part of the requirements to receive their degrees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The Center hosts as well the social &amp; development activities implemented by the LFPA in the region, such as training courses targeting women &amp; youth, focus group discussions, youth meetings and other activities \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The center is located in Deir Qanoun Naher main road, and is open daily except Friday &amp; Sunday from 8.30 am \u2013 3.00 pm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Telephone number: 07- 400960<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator border_width=&#8221;3&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>LFPA Health center in West Bekaa\/ Bekaa Region<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>T<span style=\"color: #333333;\">he LFPA health center was established in West Bekaa as a response to the needs of displaced Syrians who fled from Syria due to the civil war.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The center was established in 2013 in Hawsh Harimi municipality. The center continued in Hawsh Harimi until November 2020, where it was moved to Al Marj, in order to reach more beneficiaries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The Center serves as a health clinic and as the headquarters for all LFPA development activities in the region<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The LFPA center not only provides health services mainly reproductive sexual health and pediatrics, but it is also a space for development activities such as sewing training courses, illiteracy courses and others \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Awareness sessions are also implemented at the center that target young people of both genders who are seeking services..<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Reproductive health services in the center include counseling, family planning services and various medical examinations in the following specialties:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Gynecology services<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Prenatal &amp; postnatal care<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Family planning services<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Counseling<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Pediatrics and vaccination<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Providing the necessary medicines for free to those who frequent the center<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Beneficiaries of the center receive as well hygiene kits such as soap, shampoo and toothpaste to the beneficiaries of the educational meetings inside and outside the center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">About 4,000 people benefit from the center services each year, 90% of whom are displaced Syrians, who receive a high quality service for free.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The center is located in Al Marj main road, and is open daily from 8.30 am \u2013 3.00 pm.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator border_width=&#8221;3&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #333333;\">Funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The UNFPA project is a partnership that took place between 2017 and 2019, in efforts to strengthen the capacity of national institutions and civil society organizations, in delivering quality sexual &amp; reproductive health (RH) rights, services and information, with a specific focus on youth and the most vulnerable populations across the humanitarian and development continuum. It also contributed in promoting safe motherhood and increasing the use of contraceptives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The main goals for this project were to engage and empower women within the ITS communities to act as advocates, leaders and role models to their peers by providing adequate Reproductive Health (RH) information, changing social norms and attitudes among Syrians towards Family Planning, engaging male motivators in activities, and increasing RH\/FP supply as a result of a rise in demand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">In order to achieve these results, targeted villages were mapped in order to identify the beneficiaries and peer educators, through collaboration between municipalities, where Syrian refugees live across the villages. Then, 3 coaches (2 females and one male) were assigned to supervise the implementation of the outreach activities and make sure that the messages provided are communicated, all under the supervision of a project coordinator who monitored and followed up on the implementation of activities in the targeted regions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The LFPADE organized 4 Focus Group Discussions, between Abbassieh and Borj Shemali. A total of 17 women and 11 men attended these sessions. As for the peer educators, 30 women and 10 men were selected for the positions; they all participated in capacity-building training courses to help implement outreach activities in their communities and transmit their gained knowledge to their peers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Between Augusts \u2013 September 2017, 3 training courses were implemented, during which, coaches and project coordinators participated:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">First training course targeted 9 men (11,12,16,17 and 25 of August).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Second training course targeted 13 women (14,15,16,17,21,22,25 &amp; 26 of August)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Third training course targeted 14 women (23,24,25,28,29,30 of August and 12 &amp; 13 of September).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The total number of beneficiaries reached 6448 individuals: 5860 women and 588 men.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Beneficiaries participated in three awareness sessions on reproductive health, safe motherhood and family planning. With these final results, the number of beneficiaries reached, exceeded the original target.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">During the implementation of the activities, it was found that there are some misconceptions and a lack of knowledge regarding SRH subjects among Syrian refugees. Most of them do not seek RSH services because they do not have access to, or cannot afford them. That is why, each participant was provided with a referral card and encouraged to seek free-of-charge RH services at the LFPADE reproductive health center in Deir Qanoun Naher. LFPADE also made available a gynecologist, a midwife and a nurse at Deir Qanoun Naher RSH centers to provide RSH services. The number of beneficiaries seeking services from Deir Qanoun Naher was 1450: 25% of the target.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">The UNFPA\u2019s role was essential in overseeing the implementation of all the interventions mentioned in the work plan, as well as in providing technical assistance for substantive and financial matters.
